the view from the Michael Fields'

When I was reading Michael Fields' diary this summer, I wondered, in an idle moment, what had happened to the house that Katherine Bradley and Emma Cooper (and of course Whym Chow, their dog) lived in, by the Thames in Richmond.  Wondrous to relate - it's a small hotel, with all the rooms named after poems that they wrote, and a good bar and restaurant downstairs.  So, I thought, next time I'm in London ... and here I am, for two all too brief nights, and staying in Baudelaire: this is the view from the room (this must, surely, have been one of their bedrooms). I was here just in time to go for a walk along the river to Richmond Bridge, and to wander around the center of Richmond (not, weirdly, somewhere I know at all well), while there was still daylight - and then back for the waning of the light, and the same view as night came on.  This was a short day! - but it is so, so good to be back, albeit only in the UK for the very brief duration of our fall break ...
