This manages to be unflattering of everyone: I should have taken more than one picture. But, let me assure you, the couple I took as selfies, with me leering into the frame, were even more terrible. However - the late evening, nearly night time light was terrific; the temperature perfect - and, my goodness, did we need a drink, all of us - even the person who teaches at Occidental, not USC - after a day of grim university news. The regime is blackmailing USC: asking that we give in to outrageous demands in order to get privileged access to federal funding (and yes, of course they must know that we're currently in a financial deep hole). Gavin Newsom has countered this: if we give in to the Trump administration (and of course I will be beyond spitting furious if we do), then California will remove all state funding. It has been an anger-inducing day.

Oh my goodness. This is the epitome of a rock/hard place. I like the natural look of the photo!
ReplyDeleteIt's totally awful. Obviously we should say "no" to the regime, and stick to our principles, or such principles as we have. But we only have an interim president, and I don't know how much the Board of Trustees will take a less principled view than he probably will.
