I didn't contradict him, but I was pretty certain this wasn't a Black-Eyed Susan - rudbeckia hirta. I think of those plants as being like miniature sunflowers, or yellow daisies, and free-standing in the ground. But I put this photo into Plantsnap, and lo and behold, it's thunbergia alata, also known as Black-Eyed Susan Vine, no relative - as its Latin name shows - of the other BES. How confusing.
