So this is strange: very strange. I come out of the building in which I've just given a lecture on "Snails, Slugs, and Scale;" I start to cross the courtyard, look up to a window opposite, and what do I see? A large - much larger than life - white snail. Unless someone deliberately put it there, hoping that I'd glance up - and that's not exactly likely - this is one of the world's weirder improbabilities.
