snails

I've been working on slugs and snails (both C19th ones, and the ones that turn up, very large, as contemporary art installations) since the summer: I look forward to seeing some of you in Princeton when I talk about them at a conference this Saturday lunchtime, and then in Cambridge (England) on November 22nd.  Shameless plug over.  I would say - one never, or very rarely, sees snails or slugs here in Los Angeles (although something is eating my morning glories, only I suspect caterpillars).  But there are certainly a gathering of them round the corner, chalked on a garage apron.  At least, I think that the second one is a snail.  Admittedly, they aren't quite Ruskin, but the one on the top has a very fetching expression.
