community gardening

I'm very taken by the little community garden here up the street in Cambridge MA - not just because of the animal-like giant wire gourds, but because of all the little bunkers, or raised beds, of terrifically fertile looking fruits and vegetables - lots of tomatoes getting ripe, and huge long Vietnamese beans, and herbs, and vines, and flowers - each of the beds was numbered, so I guess it's like a little inner city allotment?  The beds were extremely inspiring about what to do in Shannon Road, because a number of them were raised to around waist height - my short waist, anyway - and surely this would make it hard for rabbits to jump in?  (though maybe easier for grazing deer?).  Horticulture beckons.
