waterfalls and strange false flowers (road trip day 2)


I've wanted to go to Shoshone Falls (taller than Niagara! look at the size of the hydroelectric building on the bottom left) ever since I first saw Timothy O'Sullivan's 1874 photograph of them - of course one's not allowed remotely near where he took his own image from.  But they are extraordinarily impressive ... even if one has to blow up a different shot to get something more like a Turnerian sublime.


Today started in Provo, Utah - a decidedly strange floral decoration in a store window, below - and ended in the remarkably sophisticated and vibrant - ok, that sounds condescending, but I'd not been expecting this - Boise, Idaho ...
