For what was to become another hot day, the early morning was extremely beautiful. This was the only time that we could really head out for a walk - by the time I exited briefly to the shops, it was already stifling; when I went to pick up the mail from the mail box at lunchtime, I made the mistake of not wearing shoes - and the paving stones were too hot to stand on.
