some Chicago animals, and more cold weather

This is Washington Square park - no, not the NYC one - opposite the Newberry Library, where I went with others belonging to the Historians of British Art CAA group - to see some fabulous ephemera and prints - an extraordinary peacock-design bound copy of Whistler's Gentle Art of Making Enemies, machine-made silk embroidered cards; some early modern song books, with illuminated letters; a volume of Repton's garden designs, with liftable flaps in case you didn't want sheep, or a folly, or a bigger lake: a real treat.

And on the way: variegated wildlife.  This lion is on a savings bank opposite my hotel;

this cheerful cat is in a dry cleaner's window (so qualifies for that particular occasional series);

for some reason, this is a large blue police dog.

Back at the Newberry, one's greeted by a postcard display wheel from the 1893 World's Fair.

And on the way back - the only Democratic Primary sign that I've seen on my whole trip: Bloomberg.
