A new teaching aid: a stereographic viewer (courtesy of eBay): turn of the C19th/C20th, and found in countless parlors as optical entertainment. It works wonderfully well, and came with 27 very miscellaneous stereo cards, mostly of world travel views, but a whole sequence showing groups of children learning or playing in different parts of the world. These are in Ireland; others are in a classroom in Mexico; playing hopscotch in Cashmire (sic); on the beach at Trouville; having a Christmas picnic in Tasmania; feeding pigeons in Constantinople. In other words, they exemplify perfectly a balance between visual entertainment and information.
