On paper, I have six more days to go as Chair - but I may just abdicate and hand over to Gramsci instead. I'm sure he'd do a great job - he's quite comfortable in front of (and indeed on) a computer. Today was so nose-to-tail full of pre-semester business, and emails about canopies and new networking systems (yes, we seem to be getting converted to something called ZoomRoom, which surely will end up being a scheme to monetarise the University). I will emphasize once again the cruelty of a chair change-over that takes place on the eve of the semester, leaving the outgoing chair handling a whole lot of stuff that she would love to leave behind, right now. Gramsci, of course, could just toss it all in the air like a crinkle-paper catnip-stuffed toy fish taco, and leave it under a bookcase.
