I was ecstatic when I learned that my brief stay here coincided with an Eliza Gilkyson concert - and in the San Miguel mission chapel, no less. San Miguel is the oldest church in the US, having been built in 1610: to be sure, it's been rebuilt in parts since (not least after it was partially destroyed in the 1680 Pueblo Revolt) - but it still is very venerable. And there's a stunning altar screen (from about 1798), with a really lovely St Michael the Archangel on top, by Bernardo Miera y Pacheco - this dates back to 1745.
And to have Gilkyson singing, too - a two and a half hour set, with lots of her old favorites, and some very new songs, too (for those who don't know her music, start with the Hard Times in Babylon album, or "The Lights of Santa Fe," or try "The Great Correction," with its video: https://elizagilkyson.com/?p=791)
The biggest cheer of the evening was when she mentioned the 34 counts of Guilty. I do love Santa Fe.
