I'm always so impressed by how, in August - this year, in very early August (it must be all the rain) - these African lilies shoot up, out of nowhere, and produce these opulent blooms. Rain, and also the spray-watering: I found everything quite muddy when I tried to slither up the hill to take a photo of these. Rain, that is, some months ago - although today, about seventeen drops hit our car windshield in a very surprising burst of precipitation.
