There aren't a whole lot of white buildings in Santa Fe, because of all the City Ordinances that prohibit anything other than adobe-brown. But this old house - opposite the Research Center - was ancient enough to have its whiteness grandfathered in, and it's a spectacular background for the Russian Sage. This is a plant that grows enthusiastically all over Santa Fe, except in our back yard, where we keep encouraging three rather sulky bushes.
