A big shift of mode today: it's conference time. So - en route to the first session, past a mural down by the old port showing emigrants.

I chaired a panel - on Darwin and Lamarck starring George Levine, Jay Clayton and Nathan Elliott: here's my former colleague George in full and eloquent flow.
Then after possibly the worst dinner I've eaten in Italy in a long long time (never go back to somewhere where you enjoyed eating in 2007 without checking ...), us diners wandered off through the Genovese streets to a
really excellent bar.
