celebrating Leslie

An excellent evening tonight at Jake Soll's house, celebrating Leslie Chang, who wrote a terrific Honors dissertation - he directed, I was 2nd reader - on Dickens and accounting.  She's going to Cambridge in the fall to study social and economic history, specializing in the C18th - I feel so excited for her (even as I was counselling her in a sensible fashion about warm coats and dank mornings drifting in from the Fens).  I do love undergraduates - the downside of chairing is not seeing enough of them (ok, feel free to remind me about that remark in two years' time, when I'm back from leave and back in the undergraduate classroom ...).
