jacaranda

It's time for my annual celebration of the magical jacaranda trees.  Every year it seems inconceivable that this sea of pale purple will come into bloom across LA; each year, it's wonderful when, round about the end of the academic year, it arrives.  This particular tree is at the Athenaeum Club, near the Huntington - basically, the Faculty Club for Cal Tech.  I was put up for a night there back in 1988, on my first visit to LA: it seemed both grandiose and full of people a lot, lot older than I was.  I swear the same people were still there today, having aged appropriately with the years.
