Henry James's bedroom, and other bits and pieces around Rye

This is, indeed, Henry James's bedroom, with a view of Rye: Lamb House - the former Mayor's House - and a lovely Georgian house it is, too.

But first, Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage.  It was pouring so hard that we didn't - as I'd hoped to do - park up the road and walk back to it, in order to admire the garden - it was, indeed, a very wet day, and driving was unpleasant, to say the least ...

but we made it to Rye, with its steep cobbled streets, and up to James's (and then E.F. Benson's) house;

with this view from one of the front rooms.

This corner was just down the street,

and then we walked down the High Street to a viewpoint over (wet) parkland and fields (with sheep, but they are barely visible),

and, looking in the other direction, a tumble of town houses and gardens.
